First, a note about footprints. The miers footprint is a super lifetime waterproof rectangle and it makes setting up the tent 10x easier, donde one the corners are staked the tent just sits on top and hook on the guy lines. Brilliant. However: The Hikeman 8.5x7.2 hex footprint is a perfect fit for the Miers Lanshan2 tent. The hex shape provides "floor" under the vestibules of the rain fly.The main rectangle fits almost exactly the same as the Miers footprint. The entire footprint is covered by the tent fly, so it stays dry when the tent is zipped up. I've posted more info on that product listing.I still pack the Miers footprint as a spare ground tarp or shade/ rain awning, it works brilliantly in those roles as well.Okay, now the tent:The Miersport Lanshan2 is an amazing tent. I thought it was a cheap knockoff of some expensive tents, but really this is a great tent all on its own merits. With the vestibules it fits two people and two packs comfortably, and most important, with the right footprint everything stays clean and dry- as clean and dry as things can be when you are hiking and backcountry camping. It packs up about the size of 2 grapefruit, it is extremely light, and once you've practiced it once or twice it takes only a few minutes to set up or takedown and stow. Seriously, if you have any questions post them, id be happy to explain our setup method. Its so easy, I can't believe all the years I messed with tents with complicated pole and rod systems.I'll say it again, I've had a lot of tents, no other tents have made me this happy. We've camped in heat and it has adequate air flow under the fly. We've camped in rain, and we've stayed dry.
The tent was a bit confusing to setup the first time, but after reviewing a video or 2 on YouTube it became a straight forward process. I am 6'1" and I have just enough room to lay stretched out on my back, on a 2.5" mattress and with a pillow, and neither my feet or face touch the inner mesh wall of the tent. The second night of camping with it, I was caught in a very windy storm, and the tent was rock solid the whole time! I didn't get a whole lot of rain, so I can't comment on that. The vestibules are pretty spacious and sit up from the ground about 8-12" to allow plenty of ventilation. One weird thing is that the doors are not on the same end of the tent. One is by your head, and the other is by your partners feet. I would have rather had both doors on the same end.The only other gripe is that it seems like the floor of the tent would get holes in it pretty easily. The material doesn't seem very durable (probably to save weight) so I used a footprint from another 2 person tent I have. I plan to make one for this tent, but I wish one was included or available as an optional add-on.Overall, for the price you pay for this tent, you get a great value. It is lightweight (2.79lb for the 2 person), solid as a rock in the wind, has room for 2 people and their gear, and leaves you money to save on other items in your pack.
Just returned from my first over-night in the this tent in the desert. Forecast called for clear skies and temps in the low 40s. The wind started howling in the evening, and by 8 pm, gale force winds were reaching peak gusts of 55 miles an hour, with sustained wind of 35 to 40 miles per hour. I was "off-trail" and had no choice but to stay the night and hope for the best. This tent held up unbelievably. The wind continued for 11 straight hours. The only failure of the tent was the small plastic hook that connects the vestibule doors to the guy-out. It sheared in half. I made a "field repair" using some parachord and the tent held together. I was surprised and impressed, since very few tents are designed to stand up to this kind of relentless beating. Literally NO tears or breakages of any kind, and although it was "flapping like a flag in a hurricane," it kept me protected from the wind and blowing debris all night. I seriously doubt if any free-standing tent would have held up in this kind of wind.PROS: Sets up nicely, (with some practice...watch some videos) and easily. Plenty of room inside with storage pockets and lantern hooks. EXTREMELY durable in gale-force winds. Double-wall tent. Really light-weight. Does NOT cost 600 dollars!CONS: Footprint sold seperately at one-third of the cost of the tent. Stuff-sack sucks a little. Opening is too small.I would buy this tent again, no problem. I'm looking forward to using it again soon!
This has been such an amazing tent! Earlier this summer my daughter and I used it for our 3 day backpacking trip and again just this last weekend. Both times it has held up wonderfully and is easy to set up!I did have to look up a video on YouTube before I was able to set it up properly, but this was also the first time ever putting up a tent. So if I can do it easily anyone can.
NOT super ultralite at 46 OZ WITH footprint AND stakes but a weather and bomb proof PALACE......You can't beat the price and a youtuber named Paul Carpenter took a garden hose to his and really blasted it.....BONE DRY ! BUY IT . Notice the reflective guy lines....just brilliant.
